How often should I have a transmission fluid and filter exchange?
The good news is you don’t have to change transmission fluid as often as motor oil.
Change intervals vary by make and model and whether you have automatic or manual transmission.
It’s generally recommended you get your transmission fluid exchanged every 40,000 to 60,000 kms or every two-to-three years – whichever comes first.
It’s important to note, though, that some new car manufacturers recommend exchanging transmission fluid every 30,000 or even 130,000 kms.

Regular service intervals and top quality gear oil is where its at when you come to Dale’s Auto Center! Trust the experts with your diffs.
Heat from friction will gradually cause the differential fluid to break down, making it harder to keep the differential properly lubricated.
Degraded differential fluid causes poor differential performance, excessive noise, and disproportionate wear.
In severe causes, old fluid will eventually cause a differential breakdown, if not a complete differential failure, which means that your entire differential system will need to be replaced.
Replacing an entire differential system is costly and can be avoided with routine maintenance as indicated by your owner’s manual, which will provide you with specific intervals for servicing your differential.
What is a manual transmission service?
Whether you have front- or rear-wheel drive, transmissions are required to transmit the necessary power and torque from your engine to your vehicle’s drive wheels, Transmissions allow an engine to operate at a few speeds or gears, while your vehicle can travel at a large range of speeds.
However complicated it may seem, it is a very simple process. Now that we know how a manual transmission works, we can discuss what occurs during a manual transmissions service. In order to keep your manual transmission working as efficiently as possible, this necessary service is required. During this service, your transmission fluid will be drained and replaced.
Transfer Case(4wd)
Getting a transfer case fluid change and transmission flush is important maintenance for your vehicle’s health – that’s why vehicle manufacturers recommend regularly scheduled transmission service.
If you keep up with your transmission maintenance, your vehicle can run newer, stronger and longer.
We also offer truck transfer case services, which is needed for trucks that tow under heavy conditions.
Dales can take care of all your transfer case needs and keep your vehicle functioning at peak performance.
The Basics Behind Differentials
Many vehicles need a properly working differential system for the smoothest ride possible.
While all vehicles have some variation of a differential system, the location of the differential depends on the drive type of the vehicle.
The differential system delivers power to the wheels while allowing the wheels to turn at different speeds.
As your vehicle maneuvers through a turn, each wheel on the car travels a different distance.
The two wheels on the outside of the turn travel a farther distance than the two wheels on the inside, and the back wheels cover a different distance than the front wheels.
The differential permits the vehicle to complete turns easily despite these differences.
Differential fluid keeps the differential system running smoothly by reducing heat and resistance caused by moving parts.
