An Important Distinction

Routine Maintenance Is Not the Same as a Warranty Repair

The phrase “warranty approved service” can be confusing. Dale's is an independent repair facility. We provide routine maintenance and customer-authorized mechanical service. We are not claiming to be an authorized warranty repair centre for every vehicle manufacturer.

Routine Maintenance

Oil and filter service, inspections, fluids, brakes, tires, wheel alignment and other customer-paid maintenance can often be completed by an independent repair facility. The important part is following the requirements that apply to your particular vehicle and keeping records.

Manufacturer Warranty Repairs

A repair being paid for under the manufacturer's new-vehicle warranty will normally be handled through an authorized dealer or other facility authorized by the manufacturer. If you believe your vehicle has a warrantable defect, contact the manufacturer or dealer regarding coverage.

Protect Your Maintenance History

What Matters When Your Vehicle Is Still Under Warranty?

Every vehicle and warranty can have different terms. Good maintenance records make it much easier to demonstrate when and how required service was performed.

01 Follow the Required Schedule Maintenance should be based on the schedule and conditions specified for your year, model and powertrain.
02 Use the Correct Oil Engine oil should meet the viscosity and performance specification required for the particular vehicle.
03 Use Appropriate Parts Filters, fluids and replacement parts should be appropriate for the application and the service being performed.
04 Record the Mileage & Date Service history should clearly show when maintenance was performed and the vehicle mileage at the time.
05 Keep Your Invoices Detailed invoices create a documented maintenance history if questions arise later.
06 Read Your Warranty Terms Factory warranties, extended warranties and service contracts can have different requirements.

Documentation Matters

Build a Clear Maintenance Record From the Beginning

A properly documented maintenance history is valuable whether you keep the vehicle for three years or fifteen. It provides a record of what was serviced, when it was done and what the vehicle condition was at the time.

Detailed Repair Orders Your service record documents the work performed and vehicle information.
Digital Vehicle Inspections Photos and technician findings can help document vehicle condition and developing concerns.
Maintenance History Consistent records make future service planning easier and provide useful history.

Vehicle-Specific Maintenance

There Is No Universal 30K / 60K / 90K Service Schedule

Maintenance requirements vary by manufacturer, model, engine, drivetrain, model year and operating conditions. Rather than selling a generic mileage package, the service should be based on the requirements that apply to your particular vehicle.

Normal vs. Severe Use Short trips, towing, heavy loads, dust, extended idling and other conditions may affect maintenance requirements.
Different Powertrains Gasoline, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles have different maintenance needs.
Check the Vehicle First Existing service history and vehicle condition also matter when planning maintenance.

Parts · Oils · Fluids

The Right Specification Matters More Than a Marketing Label

Modern vehicles can have very specific requirements for engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid and other service materials. The correct product depends on the vehicle and the manufacturer's applicable specification.

Oil Specifications Viscosity alone may not tell the full story. Required performance specifications can also matter.
Quality Service Parts Filters and replacement components are selected for the application and repair.
Vehicle-Specific Fluids Coolant, transmission and driveline fluids should be matched to the application.

Vehicle Still Under Warranty?

Have a Problem You Think the Manufacturer Should Cover?

If you believe a defect may be covered by your manufacturer's warranty, the actual warranty claim should generally be presented to an authorized dealer. An independent inspection can sometimes be useful when you need more information about the vehicle's condition or want to better understand a concern.

Describe the Symptom Tell us exactly what the vehicle is doing and when the concern occurs.
Document the Condition Inspection findings may help clarify what system or component requires attention.
Warranty Claim? If coverage is being requested from the manufacturer, contact the authorized dealer before authorizing outside warranty repairs.

Know What Coverage You Have

Factory Warranty, Extended Warranty & Service Contracts

Not every type of warranty operates the same way. Before assuming a repair can be performed anywhere, check the terms that apply to your coverage.

Manufacturer New-Vehicle Warranty
Routine Maintenance Maintenance requirements are normally specified in the owner's or warranty documentation.
Warranty Repairs Manufacturer-paid warranty repairs are generally handled through an authorized dealer.
Keep Records Retain invoices and maintenance records in case service history is requested later.
Manufacturer Extended Coverage
Read the Contract Extended coverage can have terms different from the original factory warranty.
Pre-Authorization Some plans may require approval before covered repairs begin.
Repair Facility Rules Check whether the plan restricts where covered repairs may be performed.
Third-Party Warranty or Service Contract
Coverage Varies Third-party contracts can differ significantly in what they cover and exclude.
Call Before Repairs If authorization is required, contact the plan administrator before work begins.
Know the Deductible Review deductibles, limits and excluded components before authorizing repairs.

New Vehicle Maintenance FAQ

Factory Warranty & Independent Service Questions

Do I have to go to the dealership for every service while my vehicle is under warranty?

Routine maintenance at an independent repair facility does not automatically cancel a manufacturer's warranty. You should still follow the maintenance requirements for your particular vehicle, use appropriate parts and fluids and retain detailed service records.

Is Dale's “warranty approved” by my vehicle manufacturer?

Dale's is an independent repair facility, not an authorized dealer for every manufacturer. We can perform many routine maintenance services while your vehicle is under warranty, but the warranty terms for your specific vehicle always apply.

What maintenance records should I keep?

Keep invoices showing the date, vehicle mileage, service performed and applicable parts or fluids. Also retain your manufacturer's maintenance and warranty documentation.

Can Dale's perform an actual manufacturer warranty repair?

If the manufacturer is paying for a repair under its new-vehicle warranty, the claim will generally need to be handled through an authorized dealer or another facility specifically authorized by the manufacturer.

Can Dale's inspect a problem that I think should be covered by warranty?

Yes. We can assess many vehicle concerns and document what we find. If you intend to request manufacturer warranty coverage, contact the authorized dealer before authorizing an outside repair that could affect the claim.

What if I have an extended warranty or third-party service contract?

Read the contract before repairs begin. Extended warranties and third-party plans may have different authorization, maintenance, deductible and repair facility requirements than the original manufacturer's warranty.
