Lowered Vehicles: The Art of Wheel Alignment
Lowering your vehicle is a style statement that brings a sleek, aggressive look to the streets.
While the aesthetic appeal is undeniable, it’s crucial not to overlook the importance of maintaining proper wheel alignment, ensuring both performance and safety on the road.
Understanding the Lowered Stance:
Lowering a vehicle alters its suspension geometry, impacting wheel angles and alignment. This change, although visually striking, can introduce challenges related to tire wear, handling, and overall driving experience.
Common Challenges:
- Negative Camber: Lowering often results in increased negative camber, where the tops of the wheels tilt inward. While a slight negative camber can enhance handling, excessive angles can lead to uneven tire wear.
- Toe Angle: The toe angle, the angle at which the tires point in or out when viewed from above, can be affected. Misalignment here can impact stability and fuel efficiency.
The Importance of Proper Alignment:
- Tire Wear: Correct alignment prevents uneven tire wear, ensuring your investment in high-performance tires pays off over the long run.
- Handling and Performance: Precise alignment maintains optimal contact between the tires and the road, enhancing handling, steering response, and overall performance.
- Safety: Proper alignment contributes to vehicle stability, reducing the risk of accidents, especially during emergency maneuvers.
Best Practices for Lowered Vehicles:
- Professional Expertise: Seek alignment services from professionals experienced in working with lowered vehicles. They understand the nuances of suspension modifications.
- Customized Alignment Settings: Work with your alignment technician to establish alignment settings that balance performance, aesthetics, and tire longevity.
- Regular Inspections: Lowered vehicles may require more frequent alignment checks due to the modified suspension. Regular inspections help catch misalignments early.

Pre-alignment expectations:
If the car has been worked on by you or another facility make sure:
- make sure the condition of the steering and suspension are safe and in proper working condition.
- the front tie rods are not seized. They are quite inexpensive and we will not use heat to free them up.
- ball joints, bushings, tie rods are not worn- no play/wear
- bearings are not loose or worn
- no leaking struts/shocks
- steering box is not worn- minor play allowed
- tires are safe
- the car has to be able to run under its own power
- if the vehicle was restored, make sure the facility/person has double checked their work. We do not have time to do this if the vehicle is only in for an alignment. Please book the vehicle in for a steering/suspension re-torque if you do not know if it has been done. We will then proceed with the wheel alignment.
If the car comes in for an alignment and it passes our inspection of the components above we will proceed.
If anything fails we do charge for an inspection since it takes our technician time to do this. We do not want to waste your time and money because these things were not looked at.
If you do not know the condition of these components please ask for a steering and suspension inspection when booking then if everything is fine we will proceed with the wheel alignment.
We are very in depth with our steering/suspension inspections and we will not turn a “blind eye” to any suspension issues since we are liable to any future issues.
Thanks for understanding and hope to see you soon!
